Why First Aid?

Here's a story for you... I'm home alone at about 9:30pm working on one of my other blogsites http://www.pohfolk.tumblr.com/ when I hear a massive metallic .THUD . I jump up and look over my railing to see if something has fallen in my loft, realizing very quickly that this thud was not inside my apartment but just outside. About 6 feet away from my front window to be exact. I raced to the window to see a man in his 20's lying on my sidewalk bloodied and in obvious agony. I am a first responder for first aid, I have always upkept this as part of my personal training business, so I grabbed my medkit and raced outside. I arrived to find him lying on the ground in considerable pain, pallid and breathing short raspy breaths. He had fallen from a balcony 2 storeys up and landed on a metal telephone box. he was NOT in good shape. After stabilizing his head and explaining why I needed him to stop moving I realized that it sounded like he'd broken either ribs, his back, both...

Personal Training Vs. Classes

When you go to the gym you are usually confronted with a couple of options: Do your own thing, take a classs or hire a Personal Trainer .... So what are the differences...? Doin your own fitness routine is a hit or miss project. Why? Well, the most important thing about working out is a) consistency and b) doing the things that will get you to your goals most effectively .  When you do things on your own you have to base your decisions on what you know about the body, fitness, body fat loss and the pieces of equipment put before you. The hardest part about that is that most people have never taken an anatomy lesson, don't know about the neural element of movement and have no idea if that movement is condusive to their goals. All in all my personal belief is that if you want to wire a home you talk to an electrician, if you want to put in a toilet you talk to a plumber.... OR you read a LOT of books on the subject. Most people don't do this with their health, they ...

Vo is Pillars of Health?

WHAT IS PILLARS OF HEALTH? Pillars of Health is a 5 tiered health concept which initially developed into a business of the same name. Now it is known as PohFolk (or Pillars.of.Health Folk) These tiers (referred to as pillars) are the 5 things that every man, woman and child on this planet must do to survive. These five things are simply; Eat, Drink, Breathe, Sleep and Move. Einstein once said ‘Any theory that cannot be explained to a child is probably worthless’. This is our governing ideology. This program is designed to show the correlation between the Pillars and how that affects health. It then shows you how to change the aspects of lifestyle so that these Pillars work for the individual or group. Due to the simplicity of the program it can be tailored to ANY setting; be it corporate, clinical, educational, etc…. The other element of Pillars of Health is that it is based in (and as such, follows) ecology closely; this is an eco-friendly business that promotes and supports the envir...

Soybeans... good? I dunno...

Wikipedia – Soybean Soybeans did not become an important crop outside of Asia until about 1910. In America, soy was considered an industrial product only and not used as a food prior to the 1920s. Environmental groups, such as Greenpeace and the WWF , have reported that both soybean cultivation and the probability of increased soybean cultivation in Brazil, has destroyed huge areas of Amazon rainforest and is encouraging further deforestation . [5] Growing soy also requires the use of harmful pesticides and herbicides , while alternative and much more nutritious sources of plant protein such as hemp do not. In 1997, about 8% of all soybeans cultivated for the commercial market in the United States were genetically modified. In 2006, the figure was 89%. Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) is among the largest processors of soybeans and soy products. ADM along with Dow Chemical Company , DuPont and Monsanto support the industry trade associations United Soybean Board (USB) and Soyfoods...
